D. 7 PUBLIC COMMENT (2 Minutes/Speaker) |
|
Veronica Benjamin said she has nothing against Sheriff Livingston and was not involved in the ICE detention hold matter. She is concerned that the Sheriff still employs officer Andrew Hall, found guilty of a felony. Legislation that would require his termination of employment immediately for that does not come into effect until 2022/2023. She would like the Board to pursue the firing of Officer Hall;
Supervisor Mitchoff notes that under current law, the officer’s employment cannot be terminated until he has been sentenced by a judge. At such time, he will be removed from County employment.
Cheryl, thanked Supervisor Andersen and the Board for a robust conversation. She encourages others to participate in future listening sessions with Supervisor Andersen on racial equity, social justice and mental health of students. She said the community is defining what safe and healthy looks like, and appreciates space provided to have what can be uncomfortable discussions.
