D.1 CONVENE a community forum regarding the provision of access of certain individuals to the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, pursuant to Government Code section 7283.1(d). (Timothy Ewell, Chief Assistant County Administrator)
|
|
Debra Ballinger, Executive Director, Monument Impact; Melody, Bay Area Legal Aid; Jacqueline Vera, Richmond; Karen Hernandez, Monument Impact; Albert Schrover; Kristi Laughlin; Student, DeAnza High School; Amy.
Concern was expressed in the community about notification of the forum date in sufficient time to prepare presentations. A notice of hearing was published in the East Bay Times 30 days in advance. County staff provided flyers in english and spanish to the Justice Coalition as well as a media list over a two week period to get word out to any residents that might be interested in attending.
To allow interested parties more ample time to prepare and inform the public, going forward the date of Forum will be included on the Board's annual meeting calendar that is adopted in October, and flyers will go out for distribution four weeks before the date of the meeting, with more intensive outreach in the two weeks beforehand. |

Albert Sawyer of Concord invited the Board to join in a 50 states discussion of what it means to be a du jour form of government rather than a de facto form of government. The conversation will take place starting August 30th. You can find more information at dejoure4sure.com.
A naturalized citizen of Pelonese descent reminded the Board that immigration and border issues are not exclusively in regard to the Latino community and to please refrain from lumping all immigrants and their needs together.
