RECEIVE report on status of solar energy siting policies. |
Jason Crapo and Will Nelson from the Department of Conservation and Development provided an overview of the County’s current policies for siting residential rooftop and commercial scale solar energy facilities, as described in the staff report. Staff noted that more permits are pulled currently for residential rooftop solar projects than any other type of project for which the County issues permits. In terms of commercial solar, staff is bringing to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors a modification to the current zoning that would allow solar projects that produce electricity for commercial purposes on a case-by-case basis. This is considered a stopgap measure while staff looks more extensively renewable resource potential and potential changes to zoning ordinances.
Members of the public encouraged the Board to facilitate installation of more solar projects of all types in Contra Costa County, as well as energy storage technologies. |
