RECEIVE update from the County’s Sustainability Coordinator.
Referral Update:
This report provides an update to the Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee on the work of the County’s Sustainability Coordinator since the Committee last met in January 2018. Key activities during this period are listed below.
  • Worked with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority to submit proposals to the California Energy Commission and California Department of Transportation for funding to support development of an Electric Vehicle Readiness Blueprint.
  • Completed the contract with Meister Consultants/Cadmus Group for the Renewable Resource Potential Study and initiated work on that project.
  • Initiated collaboration with the County Library system on programs related to the Climate Action Plan that can be offered through the Libraries. A representative from the County Library attended the February meeting of the Sustainability Commission and is working with members of the Commission on a pilot Fix-It Clinic. Staff from the Department of Conservation and Development are working with the Library to establish a system for residents to check out energy efficiency toolkits they can use in their homes. Staff expects additional opportunities to collaborate will develop over time.
  • Supported the February meeting of the Sustainability Commission and worked with Sustainability Commission members on various topics.
  • Accepted the resignation of the Education, At-Large member of the Sustainability Commission, and initiated the process for advertising and filling the vacancy.
  • Supported Contra Costa County Climate Leaders in hosting a workshop at County offices on rooftop solar.
  • Collaborated with the Office of the Clerk/Recorder to offer a tutorial for County staff on how to effectively use Twitter.
  • Worked with MCE staff on issues related to switching County customers to MCE, coordinating on outreach to customers for energy efficiency programs, and providing input to MCE for electric vehicle programs.
  • Worked with the Hazardous Materials Ombudsman and energy efficiency staff to submit an application for a Civic Spark Fellow to coordinate energy efficiency programs to disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.
  • Met with the Resilient by Design team working in North Richmond to provide background and context for their project.
  • Convened quarterly meeting of the Sustainability Exchange.
  • Continued coordinating with staff of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) on the Adapting to Rising Tides – Eastern Contra Costa study.
  • Collaborated with County staff working on topics including land use and transportation, hazardous materials, green business program, economic development, Planning Integration Team for Community Health (PITCH), codes, solid waste, energy.
  • Participated in regional activities.
