RECOMMENDATION(S):

RATIFY the Deputy Fire Chief's execution of a Grant Agreement with the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for the CAL FIRE California Climate Investments Fire Prevention Grants Program in the amount of $3,000,780 for creation of a shaded fuel break, for the period July 26, 2022 to March 15, 2026.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The grant award amount is $3,000,780. There is no local agency cost sharing requirement.

BACKGROUND:

On February 8, 2022, by way of Resolution No. 2022/2, the Board of Directors approved and authorized the Fire Chief, or designee, to apply for and accept grant funding from the CAL FIRE California Climate Investments Fire Prevention Grants Program in an amount not to exceed $5,000,000 for the creation of a shaded fuel break. The Fire District was awarded the grant in the amount of $3,000,780.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The Fire District is requesting that the Board ratify the Deputy Fire Chief's execution of a Grant Agreement with the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The agreement includes modified indemnification to indemnify the state for any third party claims arising out of the work the District performs pursuant to the agreement. The District will also compile a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review before performing work with grant funds including dozing, burning, or cutting.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Fire District will not have confirmation of its authority to accept the grant award.
