RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2021/274 to approve and authorize the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to accept funding in an amount not to exceed $98,141 from the California Department of Aging to provide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education services for the period October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

County to receive $98,141 in 100% Federal funding from the California Department of Aging.
The County will retain the 10% maximum allowable portion of the grant totaling $9,814.10 for administration.

No County match is required.

FISCAL IMPACT: (CONT'D)
CFDA: 10.561

BACKGROUND:

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) provides evidence-based nutrition education and obesity prevention services to seniors. The funding will be used for planning and service delivery to improve the health of low-income seniors and homebound older adults in Contra Costa County by disseminating nutrition education literature and providing physical activity sessions throughout the year at multiple sites and modalities. Through SNAP-Ed, Contra Costa’s at-risk older adults will acquire the skills to make healthy food choices, meet their nutritional needs, become food secure, develop smart food shopping practices, and enhance wellness.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without funding, the Employment and Human Services Department would not be able to provide SNAP-Ed services to seniors improving the health of low-income County senior residents.
