RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute an agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to reimburse the County an amount not to exceed $268,639 to perform pest exclusion and high-risk pest inspection and enforcement activities for the period July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This agreement will reimburse the County for expenses incurred not to exceed $268,639. There is no county match of funds nor grant monies involved.

BACKGROUND:

This agreement sets activity levels for Contra Costa County based on historical workloads and costs negotiated work plan to maintain optimal enforcement of quarantines to keep exotic and invasive pest out of California and Contra Costa County. These programs include Pest Detection, Pest Eradication, Pest Management Control, Pest Exclusion, Seed Inspection, Nursery Inspection, Fruit and Vegetable Quality Control, Egg Quality Control, Apiary Inspection, and Crop Statistics.  



CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

A negative action will mean loss of revenue to the County and increased costs to support the inspection and enforcement activities mandated by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
