RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute, on behalf of the County Contract #26-437-15 with Stericycle, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $1,200,000, for the provision of hazardous waste management services at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Health Centers, for the period July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This contract will result in contractual service expenditures of up to $1,200,000 over a three-year period and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

Contra Costa County has been contracting with Stericycle, Inc. since April 2002 to provide hazardous waste management services to CCRMC and various Health Center locations within the County.

On November 3, 2020, the Board of Supervisors approved Contact #26-437-14 with Stericycle, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $384,000 to provide bio-hazardous waste management removal services for CCRMC and Health Center locations, for the period from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.  
  
Approval of Contract #26-437-15 will allow this contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2024.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, CCRMC and Health Centers would not be in compliance with Health and Safety Codes with regard to bio-hazardous waste management and removal.
