Referral History:
As part of its update to the County General Plan, Contra Costa County is also updating its Climate Action Plan (CAP). Work on the CAP has been ongoing since late last year. The consultants for the CAP update have been working with the Sustainability Commission, providing information and receiving feedback on the emissions inventory, vulnerability assessment, and other components of the CAP and the General Plan, including environmental justice.
Referral Update:
The Sustainability Coordinator is gathering input from the Sustainability Commission concerning draft CAP goals and strategies for achieving those goals. The Sustainability Coordinator is also working with staff across departments to determine the extent such strategies can be implemented and measured. The Sustainability Coordinator, with help from the Sustainability Commission, is hosting several community meetings to receive input and ideas on the CAP goals and strategies. Meeting dates and locations include:

Thursday, September 19, 2019, Walnut Creek
Thursday, September 26, 2019, Crockett
Tuesday, October 1, 2019, North Richmond
Tuesday, October 15, 2019, Antioch

The Sustainability Coordinator is meeting with County staff and other stakeholders to receive input on CAP goals and strategies. The current working draft of the goals includes:

Clean and Efficiency Built Environment
Buildings in Contra Costa County run on clean energy

Carbon Free Energy
Contra Costa County uses clean energy in every sector

Resilient Communities
Contra Costa County uses natural systems and open space to increase resilience to natural disasters and foster community health

No-Waste Contra Costa
Contra Costa County generates no more solid waste than 2.25 pounds per person per day (PPD)

Reduce Water Use and Increase Drought Resilience
Contra Costa County uses less water and communities are prepared for drought

Clean Transportation Network and Infrastructure
Contra Costa County's transportation system facilitates walking, biking, and transit. If residents and workers are driving, they are in electric vehicles.
