RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to apply for and accept grant funding from California Health Advocates in an amount not to exceed $3,500 for the Senior Medicare Patrol Program for the period September 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018.  

FISCAL IMPACT:

County to receive an amount not to exceed $3,500 from California Health Advocates. (100% Federal) (No match)  

BACKGROUND:

Funding will support the Employment and Human Services Department, Aging and Adult Bureau, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provide a Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Liaison who will focus on outreach and education to prevent, detect, and report Medicare fraud, errors and abuses.




CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without funding, the Senior Medicare Patrol Liaison's fraud prevention and corrective services would not be provided through HICAP resulting in non-compliance with HICAP requirements.
