RECOMMENDATION(S):

Acting as the Governing Board of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute a purchase order with Physio Control, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $190,000, for the maintenance of emergency medical equipment for the period July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Budgeted. Extension of the guaranteed maintenance agreement is approximately $62,784 annually, for a total of $188,352 over a three year period.

BACKGROUND:

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (District) purchased equipment used in prehospital emergency medical care from Physio-Control, Inc. The equipment includes various Lifepak models of automated external defibrillators (AED) and a Lucas chest compression system for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The equipment is no longer under warranty. This purchase order essentially purchases an extension of guaranteed maintenance and repair of this life-saving equipment for the next three years.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The District will not perform preventative maintenance on the equipment, and repairs on failed equipment would likely take longer and be more expensive if a maintenance agreement is not in place.
