RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fleet Manager to execute, on behalf of the Probation Department, a purchase order with Downtown Ford Sales of Sacramento in an amount not to exceed $28,000 to procure one 2019 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$28,000: 100% General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Since 2001, the Probation Information Technology (IT) division has utilized a Ford Windstar van to transport computer equipment to our institutions and field offices. This is a passenger vehicle and is not specifically designed to transport equipment. While it does have a removable third row, removing it is difficult. After reviewing the needs of the IT division it was determined that a Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van was the more appropriate vehicle. Probation will not be increasing their fleet. The intention is to replace the 2001 Windstar with a 2019 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van. The 2001 Windstar van is 17 years old and is in need of repairs. Acquiring a cargo van will enable IT staff to more effectively transport equipment.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Probation Department will not have the proper vehicle necessary for IT staff.
