Referral History:

This referral to the Family and Human Services Committee (FHS) was originally made by the Board of Supervisors on April 25, 2000. Another referral, number 19, on Welfare Reform was referred on January 21, 1997. On January 1, 2005, the Board of Supervisors combined these two referrals so that the Department could provide updates on various aspects of their programs as the need arose. Since that time, the Family and Human Services Committee has received annual updates from the Employment and Human Services Department on a variety of issues impacting the Department.

On January 5, 2016, the Board approved the staff recommendation to carry forward this referral to the 2016 FHS. On June 7, 2016, the Board approved the recommendation of the Employment and Human Services Director to eliminate the "Office of the Future" component of the referral and expand the referral to include a report on the Continuum of Care (Foster Care) topic.
