RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Novation Contract #29–335–29 with the City of El Cerrito, a government agency, to provide congregate meal services for County’s Senior Nutrition Program, for the period from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. This Contract includes a three-month automatic extension through September 30, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Agency will pay County the voluntary contributions it receives from participating seniors, after it has paid its authorized expenses. No County match required.

BACKGROUND:

This Contract meets the social needs of County’s population by providing an average of 43 meals per day, five days per week, for senior citizens in El Cerrito. On November 3, 2015, the Board of Supervisors approved Novation Contract #29–335–28 with the City of El Cerrito for the period from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016, which included a three-month automatic extension through September 30, 2016, for the provision of congregate meal services for the County’s Senior Nutrition Program. Approval of Novation Contract #29–335–29 replaces the automatic extension under the prior Contract and allows Agency to continue providing services through June 30, 2017, including modifications to the County’s standard indemnification clause and the General Conditions.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, senior citizens who depend on County’s Senior Nutrition Program will not receive meals at Contractor’s facility.
