RECOMMENDATION(S):

ACCEPT the response to Civil Grand Jury Report No. 1708, entitled "Animal Shelter Services in Antioch and Contra Costa County" and DIRECT the Clerk of the Board to forward the response to the Superior Court following Board action and no later than September 11, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact.

BACKGROUND:

On June 13, 2017, the 2016/17 Civil Grand Jury filed the above-referenced report. The attached response clearly specifies:

Whether a finding or recommendation is accepted or will be implemented;
  • If a recommendation is accepted, a statement with a timeframe for implementation;
  • A delineation of the contraints if a recommendation is accepted but cannot be implemented within a six-month period; and
  • The reason for not accepting or adopting a finding or recommendation.
  • Note that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is required to respond to findings F10 to F12 and recommendations R9 and R10. The Antioch City Counsel is required to respond to finding F1 to F13 and recommendations R1 to R8, and R10 to R12.  

    CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

    In order to comply with statutory requirements, the Board of Supervisors must provide a response to the Superior Court no later than September 11, 2017. The Board must take timely action in order to comply with the statutory deadline.
