RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of County Contract #76-748-1 with Chelsea Tafoya MD, a professional corporation, in an amount not to exceed $600,000, to provide emergency medicine services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This contract will result in contractual service expenditures of up to $600,000 over a three-year period and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

Due to the limited number of specialty providers available within the community, CCRMC and Health Centers rely on contracts to provide necessary specialty health services to their patients. CCRMC has contracted with Chelsea Tafoya MD, previously as an individual, for emergency medicine services since August 1, 2021.

In August 2021, the County Administrator approved, and Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract #76-748 with Chelsea A. Tafoya, M.D., in an amount not to exceed $197,000, for the provision of emergency medicine services at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers for the period August 1, 2021 through July 31, 2023.

Approval of Contract #76-748-1 will allow the contractor to continue providing emergency medicine services now as a professional corporation, at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers through June 30, 2025.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, the contractor will be unable to provide services to a significant number of low-income women in the County who would either be without services or directed to County Health Services sites.
