RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-119-15 with San Jose State University, an educational institution, to provide supervised field instruction at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Contra Costa Health Centers to occupational therapy students, for the period August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This is a nonfinancial agreement.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide San Jose State University students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefiting from the students’ services to patients.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

The County’s Health Services Department has been contracting with San Jose State University since November 1, 1985.

On April 9, 2019, the Board of Supervisors approved contract #26-119-13 with San Jose State University for the provision of clinical field experience and instruction to occupational therapy students from the County’s Health Services Department, for the period from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2021.

Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-119-15 will allow San Jose State University students to receive supervised fieldwork instruction and experience at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers, through July 31, 2024.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, students will not receive clinical field experience and instruction at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers.
