The purpose of the Contra Costa County Aviation Advisory Committee is to provide advice and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on aviation issues related to the economic viability and security of airports in Contra Costa County. The Committee may initiate discussions, observations, and conduct research in order to make its recommendations to the Board. The Committee may hear comments on airport and aviation matters from the public or other agencies for consideration and possible recommendations to the Board of Supervisors or their designees. The Aviation Advisory Committee shall cooperate with local state, and national aviation interests for the safe and orderly operation of airports. The Committee shall also advance and promote the interests of aviation and protect the general welfare of the people living and working near the airport and the County in general. In conjunction with all of the above, the Aviation Advisory Committee shall provide a forum for the Director of Airports regarding policy matters at and around the airports.
The Aviation Advisory Committee consists of thirteen members, one of which that lives or works in the vicinity of the Byron Airport, i.e., Brentwood Byron, Knightsen or Discovery Bay. This Committee position is commonly referred to as the Neighbor of Byron Airport Seat.
Mr. Starratt, the outgoing Neighbor of Byron Airport Committee member was originally appointed to a term ending February 29, 2024. On June 22, 2022, Mr. Starratt submitted his letter of resignation, prompting staff to initiate a recruitment for this position.
The Neighbor of Byron Airport Seat will not be able to replace the current representative and therefore will not have representation at Aviation Advisory Committee meetings.
