RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Contract #74-282-22 with Ronel L. Lewis, M.D., an individual, in an amount not to exceed $419,328,to provide psychiatric services for mentally ill adolescents at East County Children’s clinic and Juvenile Hall, for the period from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this contract will result in annual expenditures of up to $419,328 as budgeted by the department in FY 2021-22, funded by 19% Mental Health Realignment, 20% Federal Medi-Cal, 20% State Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment, and 41% Probation Funds. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

Dr. Lewis has been providing psychiatric services for mentally ill adolescents at the East County Children’s clinic and at Juvenile Hall since July 1, 2006.

On July 14, 2020, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #74-282-21, with Ronel L. Lewis, M.D., in an amount not to exceed $419,328, to provide psychiatric services for mentally ill adolescents at East County Children’s clinic and Juvenile Hall, for the period from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

Approval of Contract #74-282-22 will allow this contractor to continue providing psychiatric services to mentally ill adolescents at the East County Children’s clinic and at Juvenile Hall through June 30, 2022.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, this contractor will not be able to provide psychiatric services to adolescent patients at East County Children's clinic and Juvenile Hall.
