RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute an agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture in an amount not to exceed $3,575 to reimburse the County for inspections performed pursuant to the California Organic Program for the period July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of the agreement will reimburse the County in an amount not to exceed $3,575. There is no impact to the General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The County's Department of Agriculture enforces a variety of laws and regulations regarding the production and sale of agriculturally grown products. This agreement provides reimbursement of costs incurred in the enforcement of the California Organic Foods Act (Chapter 10 of Division 17). Enforcement activities include registrations and amendments, spot inspections, soil and tissue sampling, and compliance investigations.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

A negative approval would result in a loss of revenue for the Department for mandated enforcement functions.
