RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Personnel Adjustment Resolution No. 25762 to cancel one (1) Sheriff’s Communication Center Director (64NC)(represented) vacant position No. 2964 at Salary Plan and Grade V#5 1001 ($8,316 - $10,361), and add one (1) Lieutenant (6XHA)(represented) position at Salary Plan and Grade V#X 2023 ($10,809 - $13,796) to the Sheriff’s Office - Technical Services Division.

FISCAL IMPACT:

An annual increase of $191,637 to the Office of the Sheriff budget, of which $120,725 is pension cost. Revenue from contracted dispatch services will offset the increased cost of the personnel action. (100% Office of the Sheriff Budget)

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, it will impede the organizational structure of the Office of the Sheriff.

BACKGROUND:

Replacing the vacant Sheriff’s Communication Center Director position with a Lieutenant will eliminate delays in hiring a qualified person to manage the Communication Center, as Lieutenants can be reassigned at any time, which provides the required flexibility in staffing. Historically, the Sheriff’s Office has assigned Lieutenants to manage the Communication Center. It is in the best interest of the Office of the Sheriff and the community to reestablish that same staffing model in order to ensure the operation meets the 911 emergency response needs of the community.
