RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute Agreement #20-0188-000-SA with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) in an amount not to exceed $3,675 to reimburse the County for inspections performed for the California Organic Program for the period July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this agreement will provide reimbursement to the Department of Agriculture in an amount not to exceed $3,675. There is no county match. This amount was budgeted for in fiscal year 2020/2021.

BACKGROUND:

The County's Department of Agriculture enforces a variety of laws and regulations regarding the production and sale of agriculturally grown products. Agreement 20-0188-000-SA provides reimbursement of costs incurred in the enforcement of California Organic Foods Act (Chapter 10 of Division 17). Enforcement activities include registrations and amendments, spot inspections, soil and tissue sampling and compliant investigations.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

A negative approval would result in a loss of revenue for the Department for mandated enforcement functions.
