RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County, Unpaid Student Training Agreement #23-617-1 with Contra Costa County Office of Education, an educational institution, to provide supervised field instruction in the Health Service Department for students, for the period July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This is a nonfinancial agreement.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide students at Contra Costa County Office of Education with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefitting from the students’ services to patients.

On April 25, 2017 the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #23-617 with Contra Costa County Office of Education for the provision of supervised fieldwork instruction experience at various Health Services Department facilities for the period April 18, 2017 through December 31, 2018.  
  
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #23-617-1 will allow Contra Costa County Office of Education students to receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience, through June 30, 2021.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this agreement is not approved, the students will not receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience at various Health Services Department facilities.
