RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County, Grant Agreement #28-374 (#17-82372) with the Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development (OSHPD) to pay the County an amount not to exceed $15,000 including agreeing to indemnify OSHPD, for the Health Careers Training Program (HCTP) in Central Contra Costa County, for the period from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This agreement will result in up to $15,000 of funding for the HCTP Project. No County match required.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, the County will not receive funds to support the HCTP participants.

BACKGROUND:

Health disparities are associated with poor education outcomes, residents face disproportionate rates of preventable chronic illness such as heart disease, obesity, and cancer. The HCTP aims to continue efforts to advance health career pathways and youth professional development in a community most impacted by health inequities. Project goals include: 1) facilitate curriculum to at least 50 Mt. Diablo High School students focused on exploration of public health, behavioral health, clinical and emergency medicine careers; 2) award 25 paid 6-week summer internships and clinical shadowing opportunities; and 3) collaborate with partners to plan at least 2 professional development/mentorship workshops.

Approval of Grant Agreement #28-374 will allow funding for the HCTP, through June 30, 2019. This agreement includes agreeing to indemnify, defend and save harmless OSHPD.
