RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #26-507-12 with BAART Behavioral Health Services, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $170,820 to provide methadone maintenance services for medically stable inmates at the County's Martinez and Richmond Detention Facilities for the period July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This contract is funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

In August 2016, the County Administrator approved and Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract #26-507-11 with BAART Behavioral Health Services, Inc., to provide methadone maintenance services for medically stable inmates at the County's Martinez and Richmond Detention Facilities for the period July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2018. Methadone maintenance treatment reduces or eliminates the drug cravings and harsh withdrawal symptoms that often trigger a patient's relapse.  




BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
  
Approval of Contract #26-507-12 will allow the contractor to continue to provide methadone maintenance services through June 30, 2020.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, inmates at the County's Martinez and Richmond Detention Facilities will not have access to the contractor’s methadone maintenance services.
