RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2018/438 approving and authorizing the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with the California Department of Aging (Agreement SP-1819-07) to accept funding in an amount not to exceed $106,779 for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education services to seniors for the period October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019.

FISCAL IMPACT:

County to receive an amount not to exceed $106,779 from the California Department of Aging (Agreement Number SP-1819-07). (100% Federal) (No County match) (CFDA Number 10.561)

BACKGROUND:

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) funding is used to improve the health of low-income seniors through exercise and better nutrition education. Employment and Human Services (EHSD) designs and provides nutrition information programs. Through SNAP-Ed, EHSD provides year-long low-income seniors sites for nutrition information classes at senior centers and congregate meal sites throughout the County. In addition, nutrition education materials are distributed to County seniors who receive Meals on Wheels food services.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without funding, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education services could not be provided by Employment and Human Services to low-income seniors in Contra Costa County.
