RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa County, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $245,841 to provide ombudsman services to seniors in long-term care for the period of July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. (100% Federal)

FISCAL IMPACT:

$245,845: 100% Federal (Older Americans Act, Title III-B and VII-A)

BACKGROUND:

Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa County, Inc. provides long-term care ombudsman services for adults including mediation and conciliation services, creation of Family Councils for support of families of long-term care residents, document and report investigations of physical abuse of all dependent adult and elder residents of long-term care facilities, education and training on seniors' rights, benefits, and entitlements.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Seniors in Contra Costa county will not receive the assistance of ombudsman services.
