RECOMMENDATION(S):

REFER to the Public Protection Committee the issue of fees charged to families of juveniles incarcerated in County juvenile detention facilities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact. This action refers the issue of juvenile detention fees to the Public Protection Committee.

BACKGROUND:

Statute authorizes counties to charge various fees for service related to minors detained at the Juvenile Hall or the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility (OAYRF). This referral is being requested to assess the impact of those fees on the families of minors detained in county facilities in relation to cost of providing county services.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The issue will not be referred to the Public Protection Committee for review
