RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Service Department, to execute a Purchase Order with Berkeley Farms, Inc., in the amount of $500,000 for purchase of milk and other products for patients and cafeteria customers at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) for the period from May 1, 2016 through April 30, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% funding is included in the Hospital Enterprises Fund I Budget.

BACKGROUND:

Dairy foods are needed to prepare meals that meet American Dietetic Association (ADA) requirements for balanced nutrition for the patients and cafeteria customers of the CCRMC. Berkeley Farms is the largest dairy vendor in the area and has the best prices. It is also a member of the Med Assets group purchasing organization which provides the Hospital with even more cost savings.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this Purchase Order is not approved, the CCRMC will not be able to provide patients and customers with dairy products or be able to prepare various recipes that require these products as ingredients. Without dairy foods, the CCRMC will not meet Federal, State and ADA requirements to provide patients with balanced diets.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
