RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute, on behalf of the Public Works Director, a purchase order with Crop Production Services, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $200,000, for small equipment, supplies and tools for the period August 1, 2016 through July 31, 2018, Countywide.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Local Road and Flood Control Funds

BACKGROUND:

Public Works is requesting approval of a blanket purchase order for the purchase of chemicals, supplies, and tools to manage weeds and other noxious plants within the road and flood control facility rights of way. The management of vegetation growth is necessary to reduce safety hazards such as fires and sight obstructions along the roadway and flooding in flood control facilities. As bid on BidSync #1204-005, Crop Production Services, Inc. has been awarded this commodity.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without the availability of herbicides, vegetation growth will be unregulated and quickly overwhelm the County’s capacity to mechanically mow weeds or abate them with grazing animals such as goats or sheep. This can lead to the potential for increased fire, sight obstruction, flooding hazards and the spread of invasive and noxious plants.
