BACKGROUND:

The Professional Standards Division would like to cancel a vacant Clerk Senior Level position and add a Sheriff’s Specialist. The position will handle a higher level of responsibility, to include responding to requests under the California Public Records Act, and represent the Office of the Sheriff at meetings and at court. The addition of a Sheriff’s Specialist will offer the Professional Standards Division additional support to handle time sensitive response to requests; and analyze data, reports, policies and procedures with an enhanced degree of expertise.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Sheriff's Specialist position would be assisting in the Professional Standards Unit that perform the Public Records Act Request for the department. If this action is not approved, the Sheriff's Department will not have the required staff that can assist in performing special duties, projects, research, and respond to statutory obligations as soon as possible. Failure to respond to requesting parties in a timely manner, puts the Department at risk of violating the Public Records Act.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No Impact
