RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21873 to add one (1) Sheriff’s Specialist (64VE) (represented) position at salary plan and grade VN5 1285 ($4,252 - $5,169) and cancel one (1) Secretary-Advanced Level (J3TG) (represented) vacant position #2514 at salary plan and grade 3R2 1163 ($3,735 - $4,782) in the Office of the Sheriff's, Sheriff-Patrol Division-Field Operations Bureau.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$9,507 annual increase to the Office of the Sheriff General Fund, of which $1,727 is an increase to employer pension costs.

FISCAL IMPACT: (CONT'D)
$113,277.83 Cancel Secretary Advanced level
$122,785.10 Add Sheriff’s Specialist
($9,507.27)

BACKGROUND:

The Patrol Division is in need of additional administrative support to complete assignments and mandatory requirements for training. Due to attrition within the Patrol Division, the number of trainees entering the Field Training Program continues to be high. This requires constant oversight in addition to other duties. The immense workload performed by limited staff is hampering the effective administration of the Patrol Division. The addition of a Sheriff’s Specialist would perform a variety of technical support duties and ease the strain on the Administrative Sergeant. The Field Operations Bureau has a vacant Secretary Advanced level position which would be eliminated to help offset the costs of a Sheriff’s Specialist.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Failure to implement the proposed position change will result in the Sheriff's Patrol Division not having required staff to perform special duties, projects, research, and being unable to administer and monitor the increase in the Field Training Programs in a timely manner, ultimately effecting public safety.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact.
