RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-765-1 with Pathology, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $325,000, to provide laboratory services for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers (CCRMC) for the period from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

Certain laboratory tests require equipment not available at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center's laboratory and are rarely requested tests. Because of the large number and diversity of laboratory tests used by the medical community to make diagnoses, most hospitals have to utilize outside laboratories, as it is too cost prohibitive to provide all tests on site. Contra Costa County has used the services of outside laboratories for over twenty-five years.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

On September 9, 2014, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-765 with Pathology, Inc., to provide laboratory testing services for patients at CCRMC, for the period from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

Approval of Contract #26-765-1 will allow the Contractor to continue providing laboratory testing services, through June 30, 2016.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring laboratory testing services will not have access to Contractor’s services, which may result in a reduction in the levels of service in the community.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
