RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Unpaid Student Training Agreement #72-078 with San Diego State University Foundation for its Women, Infant and Children Dietitian Internship Program, a non-profit corporation, to provide supervised field instruction in County’s Public Health Division to dietitian students, for the period from April 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide San Diego State University Foundation for its Women, Infant and Children Dietitian (WIC) Internship Program, dietitian students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefitting from the students’ services to patients.  
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #72-078 will allow San Diego State University Foundation for its WIC Dietetic Internship Program dietitian students to receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience, in County’s Public Health Division, through March 31, 2016.  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, the students will not receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience In County’s Public Health Division.
