RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Requisition No. 21691 to increase the hours of one (1) Public Defender Investigator II (6NVA) (represented) position No. 3870 at salary plan and grade JF5 1708 ($5,836 - $7,094) from part-time (20/40) to full-time (40/40) in the Public Defender's Office.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Annual increase in departmental cost to the General Fund of $67,179, resulting from additional salary expense of $46,040 and employee benefit (retirement and OASDI / FICA) expense of $21,139.

BACKGROUND:

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The Board of Supervisors adopted Position Adjustment No. 21497 at their meeting August 12, 2014, decreasing the hours of the full-time (40/40) position to a part-time (32/40) position to accommodate an employee request for reduced hours to part-time. In January 2015 the employee requested additional hours reduction to 20/40, and the Board of Supervisors adopted Position Adjustment No. 21607 at their meeting on March 3, 2015 to accommodate the decrease in hours.

Effectively managing an increasing caseload necessitates reinstating the position to full-time.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this request is not approved the Investigations unit will be unable to meet department needs.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No Impact.
