The new station houses two full three-person crews for potential expansion of services, complies with seismic standards, and also meets ADA requirements. The station provides fire protection for the community over the next fifty years and allows for the facility to provide personnel with the components, systems, and features found in modern fire stations. It is a two-story structure including, but not limited to, three (3) apparatus bays, kitchen, dorm rooms, offices, restrooms, training, exercise, decontamination, storage, day and dining rooms, and all associated heating and cooling, electrical, civil site work, and landscaping. It includes a two-stop elevator, emergency generator, and fuel tank. It also includes a photovoltaic roof system and is designed to meet LEED Silver equivalency per the County’s standard for public buildings.
A construction contract in the amount of $9,778,000 for fire station No. 70 was awarded, on March 12, 2019, to Alten Construction, Inc., of Richmond, CA. The project has now been completed, and the Fire Chief recommends that the Board adopt Resolution No. 2021/184 accepting the contract work as complete as of June 1, 2021. Following project completion, the contractor will still be responsible for completing $32,095 in ongoing final punch list items listed in the Withhold Summary Agreement signed by the contractor on May 20, 2021.
Accepting a contract as complete is standard procedure and allows for proper closeout of the contracts. If the contract is not accepted as complete, the period for filing stop payment notices and bond claims may be extended and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District will incur expenses for additional contract administration.
