RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute an amendment to the agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) for strategic noxious weed control, increasing reimbursement to the County in an amount not to exceed $63,998.90, extending the expiration date to June 30, 2023 and removing a requirement that the County indemnify the CDFA.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This agreement will reimburse the department for costs to implement and carry out strategic weed control and eradication of weeds and controlling problematic infestations of noxious weeds in an amount not to exceed $63,998.90.

BACKGROUND:

Contra Costa County Agriculture/Weights & Measures Department has a long history of weed management and weed abatement. The department has worked closely with state parks, regional parks districts, regional water districts, various other entities, and private landowners to control noxious weeds. The department will be implementing control methods and mapping noxious weeds that will protect endangered species as well as promote regrowth of native and desirable plants.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

A negative action would decrease the Department's revenue and increase the spread of noxious weeds that are not native to California.
