RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Novation Contract #28-540-26 with the City of Antioch, a government agency, to pay County an amount not to exceed $23,500 to provide congregate meal services for County’s Senior Nutrition Program for the period from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, which includes a three month automatic extension through September 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The City of Antioch will pay the County the voluntary contributions it receives from participating seniors, after it has paid its authorized expenses. No County matching funds are required.

BACKGROUND:

This contract meets the social needs of the County’s population by providing an average of 85 congregate meals per day, five days per week for senior citizens at the Antioch Senior Center. The County has been contracting with the City of Antioch for congregate meal services since 1993.

On June 16, 2020, the Board of Supervisors approved Novation Contract #28-540-25 with the City of Antioch to pay the County an amount not to exceed $23,500 to provide congregate meal services for the County’s Senior Nutrition Program, for the period from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, which included a three-month automatic extension through September 30, 2021.

Approval of Novation Contract #28-540-26 replaces the automatic extension under the prior contract and allows the County to continue providing services through June 30, 2022.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, the County’s senior citizens who depend on the County’s Senior Nutrition Program will not receive meals at the contractor’s facility.
