RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 25750 to increase the hours of Occupational Therapist II (V5VH) position #7590 from 34/40 to 40/40 at salary plan and grade TC5-1746 ($7,411 - $9,008) in the Health Services Department. (Represented)

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will have an approximate annual cost increase of $24,659 with $6,288 of pension costs already included. (100% Hospital Enterprise Fund I)

BACKGROUND:

The Health Services Department is requesting to increase the hours of Occupational Therapist II position #7590 from 34/40 to 40/40, and its incumbent, to maintain the appropriate level of occupational therapy services in the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit within Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. It is necessary to increase the position hours to ensure preparation of the daily activity schedule for groups and conducting 1:1 intervention services for psychiatric patients on a weekly basis. Currently, Psychiatric Occupational Therapists are seeing an increase of medical referrals for patients who need occupational therapy services related to mental health activities. The incumbent has been working the increased hours over the past few months and the Department has determined there is a continuing need for the full-time hours in order to meet the occupational therapy demands of the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit will not have adequate staff to maintain the appropriate level of occupational therapy services to its patients.
