RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of County Contract #27-975-2 with George James Counelis, M.D., Inc. (dba Bay Area Neurosciences), a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $300,000, to provide neurosurgery services to Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP) members, for the period from June 1, 2019 through May 31, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This contract is funded 100% by Contra Costa Health Plan Enterprise Fund II.

BACKGROUND:

On May 23, 2017, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #27-975-1 with George Counelis, M.D., Inc. (dba Bay Area Neurosciences) for the provision of neurosurgery services for Contra Costa Health Plan members, for the period from June 1, 2017 through May 31, 2019.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Approval of Contract #27-975-2 will allow the Contractor to continue providing neurosurgery services through May 31, 2021.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, certain specialized health care services for CCHP members, under the terms of their Individual and Group Health Plan membership contracts with the County, will not be provided.
