RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2018/197 approving and authorizing the Sheriff-Coroner or designee, to apply for and accept Boating Safety and Enforcement Equipment Grant Funds from the California State Parks, Division of Boating and Waterways in an initial amount of $117,002 for the purchase and installation of diving equipment and training for the Sheriff's Dive team.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Revenue;100% State, Initial amount $117,002. No County funding.

BACKGROUND:

The California State Parks, Division of Boating and Waterways has announced a grant opportunity under its Boating Safety and Enforcement Equipment Grant Program (BSEE). In accordance with Title 14, 6594.1 of the California Government Code of Regulations, California State Parks, Division of Boating and Waterways provides grants to local government agencies to purchase boating safety and law enforcement equipment. The application will also request funds for equipment and training to transition the Office of the Sheriff's Dive team to using surface supplied air during dive operations.



CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Should the Board decide against granting authority to apply for and accept this grant, currently unfunded equipment replacement/improvement will continue to be deferred or be purchased with County funds.
