Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-437-10 with Stericycle, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, for the provision of hazardous waste management services at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers (CCRMC), for the period from April 1, 2017 through March 31, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (Rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

On June 17, 2014, the Board of Supervisors approved Contact #26-437-8 (as amended by Amendment Agreement #26-437-9) with Stericycle, Inc., to provide bio-hazardous waste management removal services for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Center locations, for the period from April 1, 2014 through March 31, 2017. Stericycle Inc. is now the sole source of bio-hazardous waste removal services in Northern California, and has provided service to the County for the past several years.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Approval of Contract #26-437-10 will allow the Contractor to continue providing hazardous waste management services at CCRMC, through March 31, 2020.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center would not be in compliance with Health and Safety Codes with regard to bio-hazardous waste management and removal.
