RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute an amendment to Purchase Order #F54843 with Universal Hospital Service, Inc., to add $500,000 for a new total of $1,500,000, for the rental of medical devices at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC), with no change in the term of January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% funding is included in the Hospital Enterprise Fund I budget.

BACKGROUND:

CCRMC rents hospital beds and other equipment on a regular basis. The patient load has increased significantly, and CCRMC must rent more equipment to handle it. Universal Hospital Service, Inc. provides competitive pricing through the Vizient Group Purchasing contract. It is more cost effective to rent than to purchase some medical equipment.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this Amendment is not approved, CCRMC may not have enough medical beds and equipment to meet the needs of its patients. In addition, if the CCRMC has to purchase this equipment, the cost to the Department will be higher.
