RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 22053 to cancel one (1) part-time (20/40) Librarian (3AWA) (represented) vacant position number 11732 at salary plan and grade QXX 1341 ($4,397 - $5,616); increase the hours of one (1) part-time 32/40 Senior Community Library Manager (3AGH) (represented) vacant position number 15890 to full-time (40/40) at salary plan and grade ZAX 1662 ($5,985-$7,643); and add one (1) part-time (20/40) Clerk-Experienced Level (JWXB) (represented) position at salary plan and grade 3RH 0750 ($2,905 - $3,605) I the Library Department..

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of $7,670. There is no fiscal impact to the County General Fund. The cost is funded in the Library budget.

BACKGROUND:

Ensuring that there is an adequate number of staff available in the appropriate positions to work at all of the community libraries continues to be a priority for the Library. The Department determined that further staffing adjustments are necessary at the El Cerrito and Pinole Libraries in order to stabilize library staffing difficulties and to keep the libraries open. This action will not impact Library hours of operation nor will it change the work schedules of existing staff.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If these position changes are not implemented, the El Cerrito and Pinole Libraries will have insufficient staffing levels to meet the needs of the community it serves.
