RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #26-713-2 with Pediatrix Medical Group of California, A Professional Corporation, in an amount not to exceed $450,000 for newborn hearing screening services in the Labor and Delivery Unit at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers (CCRMC), for the period from August 1, 2016 through July 31, 2019.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

On September 9, 2014, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-713-1 with Pediatrix Medical Group of California, to provide trained and qualified personnel, including not less than one (1) Site Coordinator and one (1) Hearing Screener who will be on-site at CCRMC, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to perform State mandated newborn hearing screening services, including mutual indemnification, for the period from August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2016.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Approval of Contract #26-713-2 will allow Contractor to continue providing newborn hearing screening services at CCRMC through July 31, 2019. This contract includes changes to County’s General Conditions Paragraphs: 4. (Right to Withhold), 5. (Termination and Cancelation), 18. (Indemnification) and 19. (Insurance).

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, nurses would provide mandated hearing screens to all newborns, which is more time consuming and less cost effective than using this Contractor.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
