RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $35,000 from the Contra Costa County Keller Canyon Mitigation Trust Fund for the roadside cleanup of unincorporated areas of District V in order to provide cleaner, safer communities to residents for the period of July 30, 2016 through June 30, 2017, Bay Point area. (100% Keller Canyon Mitigation Trust Fund, No Public Works match)

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Keller Canyon Mitigation Trust Fund. No County match.

BACKGROUND:

Contra Costa County Public Works Department (now merged with the General Services Department) has been providing beautification and roadside cleanup for the unincorporated sections of District V since 2001. Each year we focus on creating a cleaner, safer community for residents of District V as a result of the Keller Canyon Mitigation Trust Fund. Illegal dumping and landscaping clean up continues to be necessary in Bay Point, and the Public Works Grounds staff is able to accomplish these tasks with the grant funding. Beautification of these areas results in lower crime rates and higher morale for residents in the affected areas.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Contra Costa County Public Works Department would be ineligible to apply for and receive the grant funds necessary to sustain the East County Beautification Project.
