RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County, Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-845-4 with University of the Pacific, an educational institution to provide supervised field instruction in the County’s Public Health Division to Physical Therapy students for the period from September 1, 2016 through August 31, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None, this is a non-financial agreement.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide University of the Pacific students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefiting from the students’ services to patients.

On September 17, 2013, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-845-3 with University of the Pacific for the provision of supervised fieldwork instruction experience for physical therapy students with County’s Public Health Division, for the period from September 1, 2013 through August 31, 2016.

Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-845-4 with University of the Pacific will allow students to receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience in the County’s Public Health Division through August 31, 2021.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this agreement is not approved, the students will not receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience in County’s Public Health Division.
