RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2016/384 approving and authorizing the District Attorney, or designee, to submit an application and execute a grant award agreement, and any extensions or amendments thereof pursuant to State guidelines, with the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, Criminal Justice/Emergency Management & Victim Services Branch, for funding of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program in the amount of $909,889 to provide services to victims and witnesses of criminal activity for the period July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.  

FISCAL IMPACT:

The District Attorney will receive $909,889 of revenues that have been budgeted. No County match is required.  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The District Attorney's Office will be unable to apply for and accept the grant award.



BACKGROUND:

On June 22, 2004, the District Attorney was designated by the Board of Supervisors as the provider of comprehensive victim and witness services for the County, effective July 1, 2004. Fiscal year 2016/2017 is the thirteenth year that the District Attorney is applying for funds available to support the costs of Contra Costs County's Victim/Witness Assistance Program. The grant application will continue to fund staff salaries and benefits to provide services to victims and witnesses of crimes.  

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

The Victim/Witness unit with the District Attorney's Office serves adults and children that have been victims or witnesses to criminal activity.
