RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to submit the Contra Costa County Area on Aging Area Plan for fiscal years 2016 through 2020 to the California Department of Aging and AUTHORIZE the Chair, Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to sign the letter of Transmital.

BACKGROUND:

The Contra Costa County Area on Aging (AAA) provides services to older residents of the County. The AAA continues to provide, through contracts, congregate meals, legal assistance, in-home supportive services registry, adult day care, errand and escort services, transportation, Alzheimer's day care, resource center services, respite registry, Brown Bag food services, and senior companion programs. In addition, AAA directly provides information and assistance, disease prevention and health promotion information services, and the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP). AAA has developed services for the Family Caregiver Support Program providing financial, legal, and medical education, multicultural connection program, and assistive technology programs.

AAA continues to provide program development, coordination, administration, and planning to enhance the lives of older residents in Contra Costa County.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without submission of the fiscal years 2016 through 2020 County Plan, Contra Costa County Area on Aging would be out of compliance with the California Department of Aging funding requirements.
