RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2016/328 recognizing June 2016 as National Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, in Contra Costa County, as recommended by Supervisor Andersen.

BACKGROUND:

Today there are more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Association is marking June 2016 as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month and, June 20th as The Longest Day where Contra Costa County residents can come together and raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association. This event is held annually on the summer solstice, symbolizing the challenging journey that so many living with the disease and their caregivers are asked to endure. This day honors the strength, heart and endurance of the more than 5 million Americans living with the disease and their 15 million caregivers.
